Success! Woodland Caribou protected under Manitoba Endangered Species Act!

July 25, 2006

In June 2006, after a targeted campaign by CPAWS and the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, Manitoba’s threatened woodland caribou was listed under the Manitoba Endangered Species Act.

We are delighted by this announcement and will be working to ensure that the habitat protection mandated in the Manitoba Endangered Species Act becomes a reality on the ground. Protection of large, healthy boreal forests is the only method proven to ensure the continued survival of this species at risk.

Thank you to everyone who sent in letters asking the Manitoba government to take this positive step toward a healthy future for woodland caribou!
