Who says beaches are just for summer? Last weekend, we traded in sunscreen for snowshoes and brought the magic of winter to the sandy shores! The crunch of snow underfoot, the sparkle of sun on the frosty lake, and the crisp winter air made for an unforgettable adventure. Whether you were a seasoned snowshoer or trying it for the first time, this event offered a whole new way to experience the beauty of the season. Thanks to everyone who joined us for this one-of-a-kind snowy beach day at Birds Hill Park—it truly was a winter wonderland to remember!
“We all really enjoyed being outside, and for some it was their first time snowshoeing and being to Birds Hill Park,” said Elyce, Outreach Ambassador and event guide.
Although it was quite windy around the water, everyone got to warm up at the end with warm hot chocolate, wonderfully made and brought by Deb, the Outreach and Volunteer Coordinator here at CPAWS Mb.
“Amazing park! We will definitely go back to enjoy it more,” said Bernardo, Nature Club participant.
About the Trail
The Beach Park loop on Birds Hill Provincial Park is the perfect winter walk! With a length of 2.6 km, roughly taking around 45 minutes to an hour to complete. It’s a beginner trail with no elevation and partially paved trails. However in our case, the trail was fully covered in snow, making it the PERFECT snowshoe trail!
There is a bathroom available on the beach (modern outhouses, not the summer beach full bathrooms). If you take the trip make sure to enter on the west side of the park, in the winter only the West beach parking lot is open.
