Your Guide to a Manitoba Winter
By Katie, Digital Marketing Coordinator
New to Manitoba and wondering how to make the most of our famously cold winter? Or maybe you’ve lived here all your life and are looking for new ways to embrace the snow instead of hiding from it?
If you’re like me, I love the magic of the winter, but I’m not a fan of the cold temperatures. You’d think growing up in Manitoba, I’d get used to it. But let’s just say I’m trying! Here’s my guide on learning to love Manitoba winters.
What You’ll Need:
Warm Layers
The secret to enjoying winter is all in the layers. Start with a moisture-wicking base, add an insulating layer (like fleece or wool), and top it off with a waterproof and windproof shell. Along with your layers, remember to wear a hat, scarf, mitts, and warm boots! Learn more about staying safe in the cold from Manitoba Health’s winter safety tips.
A Warm Beverage
Whether it’s coffee, tea, or hot chocolate in your travel mug, there’s nothing like a cozy sip to keep your spirits high on a cold day.
Outdoor Adventures
Get Lost in the Snow Maze
Did you know Manitoba is home to the world’s largest snow maze? Head to St. Adolphe’s A Maze in Corn to wander through frosty corridors, and enjoy a truly Manitoban experience.
Skate on the Red River Trail
When conditions allow, the Red River Trail offers kilometres of scenic skating through the heart of Winnipeg. Check out the warming huts as well!

Take a Snowy Hike in Bois-des-Esprits
Explore one of Winnipeg’s most beloved forest trails. The snow-covered trees and frozen Seine River make it feel like you’ve stepped into a winter fairy tale.
Cross-Country Ski in Beaudry Park
Just west of Winnipeg, Beaudry Provincial Park offers beautiful trails for classic and skate skiing. You’ll be surrounded by quiet forest and the peaceful rhythm of your skis gliding through the snow.
