We are seeking energetic and inspiring Environmental Education Assistants to support our Outdoor Education Program this summer.
The position would be ideal for university or college students studying education or early childhood education who are looking for experience – and mentorship – working with children.
You will work in a team of two to deliver workshops at daycares camps at different locations in the Winnipeg area throughout the summer.
This is a full-time summer position with compensation of $16 per hour.
Work will begin on June 17 with a week of training and continue through mid to late August.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of this position is to enthusiastically and competently deliver outdoor education programming at daycares and day camps in Winnipeg and surrounding areas.
Duties:
- Work with a partner to facilitate 45-60 minute workshops involving group games, crafts, scavenger hunts, and other activities for up to 25 children at a time.
- Flexibly adapt programming and your approach to ensure children remain engaged.
- Organize and clean educational materials.
- File activity reports.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children is required.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills are required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong collaborative relationships is required.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, organize work independently, fulfill assigned tasks and meet crucial deadlines is required.
- Experience in program planning and delivery is an asset.
- Meeting planning and logistical experience is an asset.
- At least one year of university or college is an asset.
- A background in education or environmental studies is an asset.
Physical & Other Demands
- A clean criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required.
- A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle (mileage is compensated at the government rate)
- The ability to travel to different locations in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas.
- The ability to work outside in variable weather conditions.
- The ability to lift bins of educational materials that weigh up to 40 pounds and to pull them in a wagon across bumpy terrain.
- First aid certification is required: training will be paid for by the employer if needed.
