What exactly is climate justice? And what work is being done to bring climate justice to Manitoba?
Join us for a CPAWS Manitoba webinar to learn about the important work of the Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition (MEJC), a community-led alliance of volunteers committed to climate action and climate justice in Manitoba.
MEJC’s work focuses on promoting community resilience and centering the sovereignty of Indigenous peoples in Manitoba, all while protecting and restoring the environment.
Shawn Kettner, MEJC volunteer since 2016, will highlight some of the coalition’s current projects and campaigns, including the Green New Deal, Responsible Hydro, and Solidarity with Indigenous Resistance to Fossil Fuels, which supports community-led resistance to environmental degradation.
She will explain how the coalition was started, the power of volunteer-run initiatives, and how you can get involved in bringing climate justice to Manitoba.
About MEJC
Manitoba Energy Justice Coalition (MEJC) is a community-led alliance of volunteers living in Manitoba who envision a world organized around the principles of climate justice and centering the sovereignty of Indigenous peoples.
The coalition strives toward a better relationship with the land and with each other. They believe that climate solutions go hand in hand with building strong communities with public services and infrastructure, stable and well-paying employment for everyone, affordable housing, free education and health, and affordable and accessible local food.
About the Speaker
Shawn Kettner has been volunteering with MEJC since 2016 when she became aware of the potential threat to our water from the proposed energy east pipeline, a project that was ultimately defeated.
She is passionate about transitioning to a sustainable, equitable, better world for all. Shawn spent her working years as a puppet builder, theatre designer, and educator and often finds opportunities to integrate those skills into the MEJC.
