We are seeking energetic and assertive Conservation Ambassadors to inspire Manitobans to take action on protecting our lands and waters this summer.

Your primary responsibility will be to encourage people to sign postcards supporting our conservation campaigns. That means setting up outreach tables at festivals, beaches and farmer’s markets. It also means walking through crowds with a clipboard, a big smile and a can-do attitude.
You will also get to lead events like group hikes and paddle nights to help connect Manitobans to nature.
While you will often work with a partner – either another staffer or a volunteer – you must be comfortable leading events and performing outreach on your own.
This is a full-time summer job which starts in early May and ends in either August or September. You will be expected to work weekends and some evenings. The position is based out of Winnipeg.
The hourly wage will be a base rate of $16 with a performance bonus that could bring it up to as much as $25/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Manage outreach tables at special events and high-traffic areas such as the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, the Gimli Film Festival and the Summer Entertainment Series at Assiniboine Park.
- Lead events such as group hikes and paddle nights.
- Engage the public to educate them about conservation issues and encourage them to support CPAWS campaigns.
- Promote opportunities for citizens to become actively involved in conservation efforts in Manitoba.
- Communicate about CPAWS initiatives and their importance to environmental health and community sustainability in a manner consistent with CPAWS’ mission, vision and values.
- Sell t-shirts and other fundraising merchandise.
- Take photos and create social media posts to help promote events and outreach tables.
- Track the effectiveness of your efforts (postcards signed, merchandise sales) and adapt procedures and plans as required.
- Ensure that data from postcards is entered into our database in a timely manner.
- Support the development of the outreach schedule.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Self-starting, extremely outgoing, energetic, assertive, efficient and approachable.
- Passionate about conservation issues.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, organize work independently, fulfill assigned tasks, and meet crucial deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal English communications skills.
- Experience with event planning/coordination is an asset.
- Experience working with youth, volunteers and the general public is an asset.
- Experience working for a non-profit is an asset.
- Social media skills are an asset.
Physical & Other Demands:
- The ability to work flexible hours.
- Will be expected to perform outreach work on some evenings and most weekends.
- The ability to lift bins of outreach materials that weigh up to 40 pounds and to pull them in a wagon across bumpy terrain.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. (Mileage reimbursed at government rates.)
- Will be required to obtain first aid certification: training will be paid for by the employer.
- Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check is required.
