Our Board Members

Mark Cohoe is an avid outdoor enthusiast, taking time to enjoy Manitoba’s wilderness along a hiking trail or from the seat of a canoe every chance he gets. Mark has a degree in Computer Science and is the president of a local software company. Mark also serves on the boards of the West End Cultural Centre and Bike to the Future. He has been volunteering with CPAWS Manitoba since 2004.

Amanda Karst (President) has been involved with CPAWS Manitoba as a board member since 2007. Originally from Saskatchewan, she is a Research Associate at the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources. She has a Masters of Science in Biology and her background is in plant ecology and ethnoecology. Prior to her work at CIER, she has carried out environmental research for 8 years in the field and lab.

Kim Mandzy (Secretary) has been volunteering on the CPAWS Manitoba board since 2005. She has a B.Sc. from the University of Guelph, specializing in ecology. Kim currently works for North/South Consultants, an environmental consulting firm in Winnipeg, and previously worked for environmental organizations in Ontario, including Sierra Legal Defence Fund and Ontario Streams. She has a passion for canoeing, hiking and wilderness camping.

Andy Park immigrated to Canada in 1988, landing with a plop in the balmy waters of the Pacific coast. He obtained his BSc in biology from Simon Fraser University, and worked in forestry consulting for several years in northern BC before pursuing graduate work at the University of Toronto. He has a Ph.D. in Forest Ecology, research experience in boreal, temperate and tropical forests, and is now an Assistant Professor in the biology Department of the University of Winnipeg.

Kent Paterson (Vice-president) is a lawyer with a background in architecture and urban planning, Kent Paterson is the Vice-President, Membership Centre Operations for the YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg, and a former Chair of its board of directors. He has two sons who are committed canoeists and hopes his getting involved with CPAWS will motivate them to bring him along on one of their trips.

Marla Robson is a Cree woman with close ties to Norway House and Peguis First Nations. She achieved a B.Sc. – Major in Environmental Science and has worked in the environment field for the past seven years.

Kerry Ryan is a writer and communications coordinator in the non-profit sector. She has served on the boards of a number of local organizations, particularly in the area of writing and publishing.

Trevor Small (Treasurer) has spent much of his career employed as a public accountant during which time he pursued the Certified Management Accountant designation and received his certification in 2007. He and his wife, Rachel Cooley, are busy with parenthood now after welcoming their first child in the winter of 2009. During his free time he loves watching and playing many sports, including hockey, football, and golf, renovating his old house, and enjoying the outdoors.

Jason Locke, Associate Manager, Digital Marketing for Investors Group, is a graduate of St. Claire College with over nine years of marketing experience in the entertainment, financial services and technology industries. Jason honed his digital marketing skills as a key member of the SWAT unit (Social Web Advantage Team) at Tactical Marketing Solutions where he was responsible for the creation and implementation of digital marketing programs specifically designed to engage prospective buyers and convert them into not only clients but raving fans.
